El imperativo es el único tipo de oración en inglés cuyo verbo no lleva sujeto. El sujeto que se sobre entiende es you, singular o plural.
El imperativo afirmativo se forma con la raíz del verbo.
Stop!
Sit down and be quiet!
Put on your coat!
Cuando un imperativo expresa una emoción, se pone el signo de exclamación.
El imperativo negativo se forma con do not/don't antes de la raíz del verbo.
Do not walk on the grass!
Don't sit on that bench!
El imperativo se usa para dar órdenes, para peticiones o para expresar una invitación. Para suavizar el imperativo, se suele añadir la palabra please delante del imperativo o detrás de la oración, especialmente cuando se trata de peticiones (requests) o invitaciones.
Put your hands up! (order)
Please pass the salt. (request)
Open the window, please. (request)
Please come to my party. (invitation)
El imperativo se usa también para dar instrucciones.
Turn left at the corner.
Add the sugar to the eggs.
Call the neighbour if the baby cries.
Existe una forma de imperativo que puede usarse para sugerir. Concretamente se utiliza la expresión let's. Equivaldría a nuestro imperativo de primera persona plural.
Let's go home. (Vayamos a casa)
Let's not tell them. (No se lo digamos)
Observa cómo se forma la negación de let's: se coloca not entre let's y la raíz del verbo, sin necesidad de un verbo auxiliar.
Cuando se da una orden, una instrucción o se expresa una invitación o sugerencia a una persona, el nombre de dicha persona puede anteponerse al imperativo.

En inglés no se usa el imperativo tanto como en el español. En general, se usa para dar órdenes, instrucciones o advertencias. Las frases imperativas se construyen de manera diferente a las afirmativas: no se utiliza un sujeto porque se supone que el sujeto es siempre "you" y el verbo principal va en la forma infinitiva.

Si queremos incluirnos a nosotros mismos, usamos "let's".
