My name is Alex Hunt and I'm a psychotherapist. I help people change their behaviors. Me llamo Alex Hunt y soy psicoterapeuta. Ayudo a la gente a modificar sus comportamientos. There are people who have all kinds of fears, like a fear of heights, or a fear of leaving the house, or even a fear of dogs. Hay gente que tiene todo tipo de temores, como miedo a las alturas, o temor a salir de la casa, o incluso temor a los perros. I use a computer filled with virtual reality equipment, a special kind of visor you wear over your eyes so that you think you are really in a different place. Utilizo una computadora equipada con equipo de realidad virtual, un tipo de visor especial que se usa sobre los ojos de modo que uno realmente cree encontrarse en un lugar diferente. You see things that the computer shows you, and you think that things are real. Usted ve cosas que le muestra la computadora y cree que las cosas son reales. For example, when I treat someone who is afraid of heights, the patient puts on the virtual reality rig, and I can train them to think they're looking down from a very high balcony or riding a 49-floors in a glass-walled elevator on a side of a building. Por ejemplo, cuando trato a alguien que teme a las alturas, el paciente se coloca el aparato de realidad virtual y lo entreno para que crea estar mirando hacia abajo desde un balcón elevado o bajando una torre de 49 pisos en un ascensor con paredes de vidrio en una lateral de edificio. After a while, they get used to the feeling and they can deal with real heights when they go out into the real world. Después de un tiempo, se acostumbra a la sensación y logra enfrentar alturas reales cuando sale al mundo real. MACHU PICCHU, Monica

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city in Peru. Construction of the city started in 1450. The ruins are about 2,400 metres above sea level. That's about 7, 800 feet. The city covers about 13 square kilometers. That's about 5 square miles. Machu Picchu es una antigua ciudad inca del Perú. La construcción de la ciudad comenzó en 1450. Las ruinas están aproximadamente a 2.400 metros sobre el nivel del mar. A más o menos 7.800 pies. La ciudad cubre aproximadamente 13 km2. Son alrededor de 5 millas cuadradas. For centuries the city was buried in the jungle and wasn't discovered again until 1911. Today Machu Picchu is one of the most famous tourist attractions in all of South America Durante siglos la ciudad estuvo enterrada en la jungla y no fue redescubierta hasta 1911. THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA, Zhuang

The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure ever built. It was built to protect one of the Chinese kingdoms.  La Gran Muralla China es la estructura más larga que haya edificado el hombre. Fue construida para proteger uno de los reinos chinos. Much of what exists of the wall today was built during the Ming dynasty, in the late 1400s. Other parts of the wall are much older and go back to around 200 B.C. Gran parte de lo que hoy queda de la muralla fue construida durante la dinastía Ming a fin de 1400. Otros sectores de la muralla son mucho más antiguos y datan aprox. del año 200 A.C. The wall is about 35 feet high, or 11 meters, and a stone roadway runs along the top of it. Como consideramos importante que te acostumbres también a escuchar el inglés que  hablan las personas no nativas de países angloparlantes, hoy traemos los comentarios del Sr. Naihm Shuari, dueño de un restaurante de la India. En este caso en particular, observarás que la diferencia más perceptible entre la pronunciación del inglés indio y la del inglés británico o americano se encuentra en el acento. Y que las frases no tienen un ritmo regular tan marcado como cuando las pronuncian los británicos o los americanos.

AN INDIAN COOK

In our restaurant, we serve basically curry and rice: lamb, chicken, prawn. Prawn is a very popular dish. And ... er ... then ... um ... "Tandoori" is basically to start with. "Tandoori" is ... er ... pieces of chicken, of lamb, or any kind of meat, which is marinated in the yoghurt sauce, and then it's cooked in a charcoal clay oven. And, you see, it's the smell of the charcoal which gets to the meat, and that's what gives it the "Tandoori" taste. This dish was first introduced - made popular, I should say - by "Moti Mahal" of New Delhi. They're the people who made this dish popular. At the -- the big restaurants, or the more popular restaurants, they have started ... er ..., on the menu, to explain the dishes. You see, otherwise you could be spending least about fifteen minutes with one party, explaining to them the whole menu. So, to make it easier, they have written ... er ... underneath the dish, they have explained it. Well, anyway, the waiter is there to help you and ... um ... let you know what the thing is. Majority of the restaurants here -- they have got the "hotness" (the strength of the curries) ... er ... to the ... um ... level here, you see. It's not "Indian hot". It's "London hot", as you would say. It's been toned down.

Does your refrigerator need fixing again? MR. BURR: No, it's the oven this time. MS. LOCK: Oh, so what's wrong with it? MR. BURR: Well, I think the temperature control needs to be checked. Everything I try to cook gets burned. MS. LOCK: Really? OK, I'll have someone look at it right away. MR. BURR: Thanks a lot, Ms. Lock. MS. LOCK: Uh, by the way, Mr. Burr, are you sure it's the oven and not your cooking? [Phone rings again] Hello? MRS. HARRIS: Hello. Is this the manager? MS. LOCK: Yes, this is Ms. Lock. MRS. HARRIS: This is Mrs. Harris in Apartment 216. MS. LOCK: Yes. How can I help you, Mrs. Harris? MRS. HARRIS: I'm having a problem MS. LOCK: What sort of problem? MRS. HARRIS: With the electricity. MS. LOCK: What sort of problem with the electricity? MRS. HARRIS: Well, I don't seem to have any. MS. LOCK: I see. Do you mean for the lights or is it the appliances, too? MRS. HARRIS: Let me check ... [Refrigerator door opens] No, the refrigerator is OK, so it must be just the lights MS. LOCK: I guess something must be wrong with the fuse box. I'll come up and have a look at it right away. MRS. HARRIS: Thanks so much.
